William "Duke" Ducharme of West Springfield, MA is recovering from a hospital stay the day after Christmas at a nursing home in Massachusettes. He is in rehabilitation after a stay at Bay State Hospital in the intensive care unit.
For many years he was director of the Springfield Marksmen Senior Corps when they were an active competitive unit. He then turned his attention to marketing drum and bugle corps records and selling copies of Drum Corps News and Drum Corps World at competitions throughout New England and the East Coast.
Since retiring from selling at drum corps events, he has been active
with the Drum Corps Connection, a group of drum corps fans that sat
together and partied together at DCI Championships since 1976. The
group celebrated its 25th anniversary last August in Buffalo, NY.
He set up the D's Drum Corps Connection Scholarship in 1996 and has
awarded more than 25 $1,000 college scholarships through the 2001 season to drum and bugle corps members who are continuing their education.
Whether you know "Duke" or not, Drum Corps World would like to encourage readers of our web site to send him a "get well" card to help speed along his recovery.
Thank you for the cards that have already been sent. Ducharme said he really appreciates them. The new address is below.
