by Chris Hollenback, DCW Editor

September 15, 2001 . . . The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present its Emmy awards on October 7 at 8:00 PM Eastern and Pacific time on CBS.

"BLAST!" -- a stage production that grew out of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps -- will be awarded the Emmy for "Best Choreography" in a television show.

BLAST! topped the likes of Gregory Hines in "Bojangles" and Cathy Rigby in "Peter Pan," BLAST! Producer Jim Mason said.

Ellen DeGeneres will host the Emmy ceremony, to be broadcast from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Mason and the choreography team of Jim Moore, George Pinney and Jonathon Vanderkolff will add the award to a mantle that already includes a 2001 Tony for "Special Entertainment Event" and a Tony nomination for choreography.

BLAST! recently launched a U.S. tour to rave reviews after a summer run at Walt Disney World's EPCOTT in Orlando. BLAST! has been running on Broadway since April.

Broadway musicals, which closed temporarily this week due to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, reopened their doors on Thursday.

The BLAST! design team, cast and staff include alumni from many drum and bugle corps.
