In Memoriam Mike McKenna, Scouts supporter
November 28, 2001 . . . Mike McKenna, a Madison Scouts alumnus and long-time supporter of the corps and the activity, died yesterday after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
"He was a one-man salesman, a driver and a board member," said Scott Stewart, Scouts Executive Director. "Mike was a lovable guy, he enjoyed working with the corps and was a strong supporter."
McKenna marched in the Scouts in the mid-sixties, then became a Scouts board member in October of 1991, Stewart said. McKenna was voted to another three-year term at the corps' October 30 organization meeting. He also drove a bus for the corps, and loved to go on tour and get to know the members.
"We're going to miss Mike," Stewart said. "He was a special part of the family and he could always stir up a conversation."
The wake will be at Joyce Funeral Home on Odana Rd (west side of Madison) from 4-8 PM on Friday. The funeral will be held at St. Dennis Catholic Church on Dempsey Rd (east side of Madison) with a visitation at 10:00 AM and mass at 11:00. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery on the west side of town near West High School.
