DCM Board increases judges' fees

December 1, 2001 . . . The directors of Drum Corps Midwest corps voted Saturday to increase judges’ per-show pay from $150 to $200, 18 votes to two at the circuit’s annual meeting, held this year at East High School in Madison, WI.

Greg Orwoll, Colts director and DCM Chairman, informed members that DCI had raised its fees from $150 to $200, and asked whether they wanted to follow suit.

"I personally don’t have an objection," Orwoll told the group, pointing out that judges who work band shows get paid much more than $200.

Orwoll said the increase computes to $20,000 in increased costs for the summer. After voting for the increase, the board voted to pass the expense, approximately $400 a show, on to show sponsors. The show sponsors in the room did not verbally object to the increase.

DCM members mentioned that each corps will essentially have to foot part of the bill because they host shows themselves. Jeff Fielder, director of the Cavaliers and DCM Vice Chairman, motioned for the increase. The Cavaliers host multiple shows each year...
