Scottish Brass
Recently revitalised with new membership, the Scottish Brass are planning to get on the road in 2002 and come south of the border. New charts in their repertoire include Malaguena.
Brass Impact
This corps is the new kid on the block from Glasgow Scotland, formed from the remnants of North Star Drum and Bugle Corps. They have converted to Bb horns and are planning to bring their own style to the indoor concert arena.
Kickin' Brass
Formed in fall 2001, from the Dagenham area of Essex, this corps is one of the only UK alumni ensembles that marches and performs corps-style shows. This unit create quite a stir at the "Ra Big Gig" in November where they opened with MacDuffy's March.
Pegasus
Pegaus, the established entertainers from Bristol, recently performed at a winter brass concert to rave reviews.
Sunrisers
Last year's DCUK finalist corps has decided to not participate in the junior circuit this season and instead concentrate on indoor performances. Rumour has it that members of long-historic rivals "the Beechmen" and "Beechmen Circus" are involved with the programme, so it will be interesting to see how the final package turns out. Repertoire will probably include such tunes as Good News (Buddy Rich) and Dindi (AC Jobin).
High Brass
Having moved slightly away from the drum corps arena during 2001, High Brass will continue to break into the commercial Jazz world in 2002. The group's recently released CD, "Introducing . . .," has been praised as the benchmark of marching music in Europe. Still using G bugles, HB hopes to make the transition to Bb during late 2002, and are probably going to be one of the busiest groups during 2002 with more than 10 performances confirmed already within the UK and Central Europe. New tunes added for 2002 include First Circle, Malaga, Macarena, One More Time Chuck Corea, Channel One Suite, Pegasus, Strawberry Soup and Niner Two.
Anchormen
This Elland, West Yorkshire ensemble also has a new CD. The group recently announced details of their spring gig called "With a Twist." Recent additions to the line up have included saxophones and UK Soprano legend Paul Tucker, who is normally associated with the Don Ellis Connection Big Band.
So across the "pond," there is plenty of drum corps activity for 2002.
