Scranton will host DCA Championships through 2005

Drum Corps Associates, in an unusual move, awarded the 2004 and 2005 Championships to Scranton, PA.

The bid from the Northeast Pennsylvania Visitors and Convention Bureau was just too good to refuse. With many new faces involved the cooperation level has drastically increased this winter. The new director of the bureau and the Lackawanna County commissioners were determined to not only insure a great 2003 championship, but bring DCA back to Lackawanna stadium for another two years.

Bands of America announces future events

Bands of America has announced the dates and locations for its championships and national festivals through 2005.

The BOA Grand National Championships will be held at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, IN, November 13-15, 2003, November 4-6, 2004 and November 10-12, 2005.

DCA Championships return to Scranton

For the 39th consecutive year, Drum Corps Associates, in conjunction with the Seventh District of the Pennsylvania American Legion, will present the World Championship of senior drum and bugle corps. Beginning with the preliminary competition August 30 at 10:00 AM, Montage Mountain will reverberate with the sounds of competition. With more than 20 corps competing, the defending champion Syracuse Brigadiers will face a tough challenge.

Drum Corps World is published as an on-line electronic magazine by Sights & Sounds, Inc., Madison, WI. It is supported by advertising from manufacturers, service providers, corps, circuits and show sponsors. The publication began in October 1971 at the same time Drum Corps International was formed and has been produced continuously as a tabloid newspaper until April 2011 and on the Internet since May 2011. It is released monthly, as well as six additional e-mail blasts, one in late June, three during July and two in August.

The worldwide staff of writers and photographers provide show reviews during the season and interviews, feature articles, news and human interest stories during the off-season. The photographs that appear in the magazine are provided by 27 staff members who are scattered around the world. The publication covers World and Open Class Drum Corps International corps, Open and Class A Drum Corps Associates corps, alumni, mini-, parade and standstill units, as well as the growing activity in Europe, the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Philippines and South Africa.
