A History of Drum & Bugle Corps - Volume 1

Drum Corps World has published two volumes called "A History of Drum & Bugle Corps." Volume 1 is available once again after having been sold out since December 2004. Volume 2 has been for sale since June 2003.

The volume 1 reprint has a softcover but otherwise is exactly as the original publication in 2002. Both contain 432 pages with approximately 1,400 photographs and illustrations. Approximately 150 individuals contributed written material and another 150 individuals contributed photographs and artwork for the two books. Below is a listing of the specific content volume 1.

A History of Drum & Bugle Corps - Volume 2

Drum Corps World has published two volumes called "A History of Drum & Bugle Corps." Volume 1 has been sold out since December 2004 and Volume 2 has been for sale since since June 2003. Each book has a black, leather-like vinyl hard cover and contains 432 pages with approximately 1,400 photographs and illustrations. Approximately 150 individuals contributed written material and another 150 individuals contributed photographs and artwork for the two books. Below is a listing of the specific content of each book.

Section 1 -- General information
  • Chapter 1 -- "Pageantry born on the battlefield" by Ron Da Silva (a look at how the current-day drum and bugle corps movement evolved out of military signaling)
  • Chapter 2 -- "U.S. and Canadian senior corps - 1921-1965" by Cozy Baker (the early years of the senior corps movement before Drum Corps Associates was formed)
  • Chapter 3 -- "A history of Drum Corps Associates" by Tom Peashey (an overview of the senior corps activity since DCA began in 1965)
  • Chapter 4 -- "Drum corps in the armed forces" by Ron Da Silva (how the United States military has operated some very successful drum and bugle corps through the years)
  • Chapter 5 -- "Uniforms and colors" by Ron Da Silva (the influence on how drum and bugle corps look on the field and in parades since 1921)
  • Chapter 6 -- "The birth, growth and metamorphosis of competitive rudimental drumming" by Rick Beckham (a more comprehensive review of the marching percussion movement in the 20th Century and into the 21st)
