S.O.M.E. is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 by former members and associates of the Stockton, CA, Commodores Drum and Bugle Corps to help the drum and bugle corps activity. While the group's philanthropic efforts help many performing arts organizations, the "Jim Ott Memorial Scholarship" is their annual contribution to a deserving corps member.

The 2000 award was $3,000 and was given to a worthy individual who is studying music and plans to return to the activity as an instructor. Similar amounts have been awarded in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The 2004 amount has not been determined.

S.O.M.E. also hosts an annual contest in Stockton called "The Moonlight Classic" and uses a portion of the proceeds for the "Jim Ott Memorial Scholarship."

The 2004 deadline is July 1.
