n the post-DCI finals edition, in my article on the semi-finals performances, I accidentally referred to the Calgary Stampede Band as the Calgary Stetson Showband in a few places. I did not realize the error until after publication. To readers and fans of the Stampede, please accept my apologies and to the staff and the fine performers of the Stampede, in spite of my error I knew I was writing about you and your fine performances in Indianapolis were wonderful and very much appreciated. f the 86 DCI events held this summer by Drum Corps International, we published articles on 57 of them or a 66% report rate. We never ask a staff member to be at a show they weren't already planning to attend. That is generally the reason certain shows don't get a write-up....Read MoreL
ast year, DCI had ended the annual "Big, Loud, & Live" cinecast event, citing declining attendance and rising costs, as well as the option to watch DCI Prelims on FloMarching. This announcement was met with a lot of disappointment, as many drum corps fans, myself included, loved going to the theater each year to enjoy drum corps on the big screen and on a superior surround sound system...READ MOREI
'm sitting here on a hillside overlooking the campus of Vermont State University, Castleton, VT. The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps (BAC) is in residence for spring training for the 2025 season. I have enjoyed this annual experience since 2016, when I discovered they were in spring training here, only 75 minutes south of my humble home along the Mill Brook in Waitsfield. I am here to listen, watch and write about BAC's upcoming 2025 DCI tour. This sleepy little Vermont town is awakened once again by the Giant...Read MoreG
ary Dickelman's DCI Southeast show report (Volume 54, Number 8, August 1, 2025, pages 3-17) provides an enlightening summary of the observer effect, which is the basis of the 2025 Bluecoats show. Here is a two-sentence summary. The two-slit physics experiment showed how the act of observing a stream of particles, using a detector, influences the way in which the particles behave. Quantum computing is based on quantum bits, which can represent a superposition of states, but when a quantum bit is observed, the superposition of states collapses into one of two states, 0 or 1....Read MoreS
eptember 3, 2025. DCA and Rochester, NY Labor Day weekend had me feeling nostalgic. As a drum corps kid growing up in upstate New York, it meant something big, really big! The Drum Corps Associates (DCA) Championships. The senior corps! The big guys. Labor Day weekend meant DCA. In the late 60's and early 70's, that championship was very often held just up the road from little Watkins Glen in the "big city" of Rochester, NY (eight times between 1968 and 1976.) We were raw small town drum corps kids just becoming "drum corps aware"...Read MoreA

arolina Crown has a remarkable story. Though relatively young compared to some of its peers, the corps has built an impressive legacy in a short amount of time. Founded in 1989 after the Carolina Drum Corps Association set out to bring the activity to the region, Crown quickly rose to prominence, winning the DCI Division II Championship in 1993 and moving into World Class competition the following year. Since then, the corps has become a perennial powerhouse, earning a World Championship title in 2013 and maintaining a consistent streak of Finalist appearances. ..Read MoreE
