Historic competitions have been preserved from original reel-to-reel and black and white videotapes, including DCI material (1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976) and the 1974 DCA video by Scott Gordon. The condition of the earliest material (1970 nd 1971) is very watchable and the sound quality is excellent, but the picture quality is less than high-quality. The DCI content is in better condition.

There are some missing performances on the 1972 DCI Finals DVD (Des Plaines Vanguard, Chicago Cavaliers, Muchachos and Troopers) and 1973 DCI Finals DVD (Argonne Rebels and Belleville Black Knights) because tapes were either lost, not in presentable condition or were taped over by mistake.
